Our Community

Truro or Cobequid as it was originally referred to, was founded in 1703 during the period of French rule in Canada, when the province was part of Acadia. French fishermen and farmers settled on the tidal lowlands around the site of the present town.

Truro was nicknamed "The Hub Of Nova Scotia" more than one-hundred years ago when railways linking Nova Scotia met here. As road transport achieved importance, it also became the hub of the provincial highway network.

Today, with a population of about 13,000, Truro is an important centre of transportation, manufacturing, agriculture, trade, and education. It's central location even has a direct bearing on its climate. Being just fifteen miles north of the halfway point between the Equator and the North Pole, Truro escapes the extremes in temperature and weather conditions often experienced in other areas.
